One-day Technology Sharing Festival

  • HITS : 9729
  • Date : 2014-04-10

Jointly Hosted by KIOST and the Gyeonggi Technopark

The Republic of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) (President Kang Jung Keuk) has recently announced that it will co-host the One-day Technology Sharing Festival on April 10 (Thu) at the Gyeonggi Technopark in Ansan as part of the effort to boost the creative economy by increasing the technological capability of Korean SMEs.

The event, jointly hosted with the Gyeonggi Technopark (Gyeonggi TP) (Governor of Gyeonggi TP Kim Mun-su), aims to promote the public interest by offering the R&D achievements made by KIOST, including its own patented technologies, to SMEs across Republic of Korea.

To achieve this aim, KOIST has selected 32 patented technologies to be shared through a careful investigation of its assets, especially unused patents. It plans to offer introductions for the participating companies on the selected technologies, which have been categorized into five areas: marine construction, marine environment, marine power generation, marine biology, and marine chemistry. KIOST will also exchange ideas with them on how the patents can be exploited most profitably.

The institute also plans to use the event as an opportunity to introduce the participants to various support programs offered by public organizations, including the Maritime and Fisheries R&D Technology Transfer Program operated by the Republic of Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion (KIMST), the SME Technology Transaction Support Program of the Republic of Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC), and financial support programs assigned by the Gyeonggi TP for the commercialization of technologies developed by SMEs in Gyeonggi-do.

The SMEs interested in the technology transfer program are expected to submit applications to KIOST on the day of the festival. Program participants will then be selected after a panel of experts, organized by the institute, thoroughly examines and deliberates on the applicants’ plans for the use of the patents and corporate information.

“The event is very popular among SMEs across the province,” said Kim Tae-Young, chief of KIOST’s Center for Promoting Utilization of R&D Results, “and over 50 companies expressed their intention to participate as soon as they were informed of the event.” He then added that the event would be a great example of industry-academia cooperation “because the effective use of KIOST’s patents will play a significant role in enabling the participants to increase their competitive advantage in terms of technology.”

KIOST offers detailed information on the event through the website (www.tlo.kiost.ac) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/tlo.kiost) of its Center for Promoting Utilization of R&D Results.
