The Korea Ocean Satellite Center organizes three international workshops
- The 2nd GOCI PI Workshop
- The 1st Workshop on the Development of GOCI-II
- The 8th Japan-Korea Workshop on Ocean Color (JKWOC)

The Korea Ocean Satellite Center of the Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute (KORDI) will organize three international workshops at the KORDI main office in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, for four days from Jan. 10, 2012. These will be the Second GOCI (geostationary ocean color imager) PI (principal investigators) Workshop, the First Workshop on the Development of GOCI-II and the Eighth Japan-Korea Workshop on Ocean Color (JKWOC). These workshops are aimed at expanding the utilization of the local and international data obtained from the Cheollian GOCI.

The Second GOCI PI Workshop, whose first session was held in October 2008, will feature the outcomes of case studies involving the utilization of GOCI data. During this workshop, participants will also discuss ways to implement research outcomes and to determine the direction of future support initiatives. The Korea Ocean Satellite Center will offer interpretation services to all participants throughout the workshop period to help them better understand the research being conducted in ocean color, which still remains somewhat unfamiliar to local academics, and to actively participate in discussions.

The First Workshop on the Development of GOCI-II will follow. Domestic and international experts in satellite development and the utilization of GOCIs will present papers on the operational and developmental trends in the satellite sector. They will also offer suggestions for the future development of GOCI-II and hold discussions.

Meanwhile, the Eighth Japan-Korea Workshop on Ocean Color will be held on Jan. 10, one day before the two other workshops. This workshop has served Korean and Japanese researchers as a place for sharing research outcomes and has offered students of the two countries the chance to expand their knowledge. The forthcoming workshop will also serve as a venue for Korean and Japanese experts in ocean color remote sensing to promote friendship and discuss research results. Students from local universities are welcome to attend.

The detailed schedules for the workshops are as follows. Anybody who is interested in a workshop can participate. Those who wish to participate must direct their inquiries to the official in charge, in advance.
