KORDI Launches New Management Organization for
More Creative Management

Personnel movements announced on June 1, 2011
along with reorganization

In step with the launch of its second leadership with Mr. KANG Jung-geuk reappointed as its eighth president, the Republic of Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI) reshuffled its organization as of June 1, 2011, entailing movements of its people to new positions.

The most notable in the reorganization is the founding of the Research Strategy Management to function as a control center to perform overall coordination of the tasks of research planning, research management, performance management, and dissemination of knowledge with the aims of strategic planning for and integrated management of the country's R&D. The Research Strategy Department is expected to help KORDI proactively respond to the rapid change in science and technology and to more systematically and efficiently provide research and administrative services. Under the department are Research Strategy Section, Research Management Section, Merit and Achievement Management Section, and Ocean Science Library Service.

In addition to the establishment of the Research Strategy Department, simpler names have been given to KORDI’s branch organizations, which are located in three areas of the East Sea, West Sea, and South Sea. Their full names were the Maritime Ocean Engineering Research Center (KORDI’s branch institute in Daedeok), the South Sea Research Institute (KORDI’s branch institute in the South Sea area), and the East Sea Research Institute (KORDI’s branch institute in the East Sea area). Now, they are simply named as the KORDI Daedeok Branch, the KORDI South Sea Branch, and the KORDI East Sea Branch.

“Now that KORDI has an organization that befits its status and role of the only comprehensive marine research institute in Republic of Korea, its competitiveness in research and its creativity in management will increase,” says a KORDI insider.
