Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute (President Jung Geuk Jang) announced that a “Geostationary Ocean Color Imager Data Processing System (GDPS)* Users' Workshop” will be held at the Grand Auditorium in Ansan, starting at 2 PM on September 2 (Fri). This workshop is open to anyone who is interested in using the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager, including college (graduate) students, satellite data users, and related officers.

The “Geostationary Ocean Color Imager Data Processing System (GDPS)” processes and analyzes ocean signals and environmental information received from satellite image data in real time to generate standard satellite data. Through this workshop, general users and researchers will be introduced to the software used by the Republic of Korea Ocean Satellite Center to increase the utilization of the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager.

The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), which was successfully launched in June of last year, is the world's first GOCI, and transmits satellite images of the seas around the Korean Peninsula 8 times a day. Since April of this year, Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute has been making the satellite data available to the public free of charge through the Republic of Korea Ocean Satellite Center Homepage.

Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute is planning to follow up with regular user training for better use of ocean satellite data. Also, an ocean environment analysis algorithm will be calibrated to improve the accuracy of standard outputs, and updated to increase their distribution.

"Ocean satellite data produced by users based on GOCI Data Processing System will be used for diverse research in the ocean, land, atmosphere, and fishery industries," said Director Joo Hyung Yoo of Republic of Korea Ocean Satellite Center, Republic of Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute.
