See The SEA, the in-house magazine of the Republic of Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI; President KANG Jung-keuk), received the Republic of Korea Business Journalism Association President Award at the 2010 Republic of Korea Communication Award held in the Seoul Press Center on December 8, 2010.

At the award ceremony, organized by Republic of Korea Business Journalism Association (KBJA) and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Republic of Korea Press Foundation, and the Republic of Korea Periodical Trust Cooperative, See The SEA was honored as the winner of the New Journal Grand Prize (KBJA President Award).

The New Journal Grand Prize is granted to only to newsletters established within the last two years, and the chance is not given twice. Thus, being selected as the winner is much more meaningful.

See The SEA was created in the spring of 2009 as an in-house seasonal magazine for KORDI and carries news on KORDI researchers’ endeavors, reports on marine science and the seas at home and abroad, photos, and contributions by science reporters.

“Our in-house journal See The SEA effectively conveys interesting content, so it plays a significant role in making the public feel closer to the sea and KORDI,” says a KORDI insider, adding, “Although it’s a periodical, its content is not the kind that quickly becomes dated, if at all. We intend to improve it so that it will constitute a cherished collection for readers.”

The Republic of Korea Communication Award, launched as the Republic of Korea In-house Journal Award in 1991, recognizes winners every year from among the publications of governmental agencies, companies including public service companies, and a range of organizations in order to help improve periodicals and organizational practices.
