For the First National Maritime Safety Forum on April 28
Hosted by the Office of Lawmaker Shim Jae-chul and organized by the Republic of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) (President: Hong Gi-Hoon), the first National Maritime Safety Forum will be held at the second Meeting Room of the National Assembly Hall on April 28, 2015 (13:30, Tues).
Following the Sewol ferry disaster last year, this forum will invite domestic and global experts on maritime accidents and disasters, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Republic of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, to discuss ways of securing maritime safety at the national level.
Following the presentations, titled “International Activities to Respond to Maritime Disasters and Incidents,” “IMO Activities Regarding Maritime Rescue Operations and Disasters,” “Effective Measures to Prevent Ferry Disasters,” “Development to Responses to Maritime Disasters,” and “Directions of Development and Policy Issues for Maritime Rescue,” in-depth discussions with maritime experts will be held.
Regarding issues related to maritime safety at home and abroad, the National Maritime Safety Forum will employ and unite the power of science and technology to help develop strategies to strengthen our national rescue capabilities and establish means of achieving rapid response in the early stage of a disaster
