Deep-Sea Exploration in Illustration, the 22nd volume in the Future-Dreaming Marine Books Series organized by the Republic of Korea Institute of Ocean & Technology (KIOST), has been published.

Authored by Bak Jeong-gi, Deep-Sea Exploration in Illustration presents a fascinating account of significant research in the history of marine exploration from ancient times through to the Great Age of Exploration in the 14th-15th centuries, the Age of Discovery in the 17th-18th centuries, and the modern age of advanced deep-sea research technology.

The book features the efforts and enthusiasm of marine scientists of the past who set sail to better understand the seas, which were at the time still “unknown worlds.” Author Bak Jeong-gi points out that while it was less than 200 years ago that people began studying the seas under the name of marine science, there were explorers who had embarked on various marine explorations long before.

Featuring many illustrations drawn by the author himself, the book is presented in an interesting dialogue style to help the general public easily understand the major historical moments in the history of marine exploration.

The Future-Dreaming Marine Books Series is a series of books revolving around knowledge of the oceans. The series was conceived by KIOST to help young people learn about the many facets of the oceans. The first volume, The Vagabond in the Seas, Plankton, was published in 2007 and since then, a total of 22 volumes in the series have been released.

The book series has been selected for recommended reading by many organizations, including the Republic of Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, Kyobo Bookstore, Donga Ilbo newspaper and Happy Morning Reading Corporation.
