The chief executives of both KIOST and the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration(NOAA) met in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, on May 18 and 19 to share their recent status and discuss common interests between the two sides.

As one of KIOST's key partners, NOAA has been the world's first to identify geostationary satellites, ozone depletion materials, and marine warming over the past 50 years, and has led marine science research, marine technology, and marine policy.

Richard W. Spinrad, head of NOAA, who visited Korea as a member of the 11th Korea-U.S. Joint Committee on Science and Technology ('23. 5. 19, Westin Chosun Hotel), introduced marine scientific solutions to global issues.

In addition, the head of the KIOST will visit NOAA this year to explore ongoing research cooperation between the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Research Institute (GFDL), the Pacific Fisheries Science Research Center (PIFSC), and KIOST.
