On November 9, 2023, the delegation led by Mr. Nan Zhang, the Science & Technology Counselor from the Chinese Embassy in Korea, visited KIOST. Upon arriving, Mr. Zhang was able to meet President Do-Hyung Kang, Senior Director Yeong-Seong Kim (Management Division), Director Dongsung Kim (External Relations Department), Director General Hee Cheol Yang (Ocean Law and Policy Institute), and Leader Ungyul Yi (Global Cooperation Section) to consult issues relevant to both nations.

Both sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on the promoting cooperation for the development of science and technology between Korea and China, including the Korea - China Joint Ocean Research Center operated by KIOST in Korea and the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO) in China.

Afterwards, the counselor and his party visited the Ocean Satellite Operation Building to attend a short lecture on the current research activities with the utilization of the Ocean Satellite operated by KIOST.
